WHISKEY CAKE CHALKBOARD DESIGN

RESTAURANT SIGNAGE

I jumped to the opportunity of bringing both my graphic design skills and life-long passion for art to three new chalkboard artworks at Whiskey Cake in Las Colinas.

Each design was completed over the course of a weekend, and with every installation I adapted to the physical demands of the environment. During the first weekend, my entire body was sore from balancing on a narrow beam, using my left arm for stability while my right hand focused on executing clean, steady lines. By the second piece, I implemented the grid method I learned at UTA, which significantly increased both my proportion accuracy and productivity. By week three, I was confidently maneuvering the six inch beam and translating my digital mockups seamlessly into large scale artwork. Each piece was 12 inches high and about 60 inches wide.

While each chalkboard carried its own personality, I intentionally built them within a cohesive design system. Decorative curls paired with structured straight lines created visual continuity across all three pieces. Color was used strategically and sparingly to attract attention without distracting from the call to action. This project gave me the space to experiment with typography at scale while strengthening my ability to merge concept, craft, and execution.
